Barcelona’s Pedri injured with hamstring problem

Pedri recorded over 50 outings in his debut season with Barcelona.

Pedri may remain out for a prolonged period following sustaining a torn hamstring in Barcelona’s Europa League collapse. The 19-year-old playmaker has endured his second injury of the year and is anticipated to be out for some weeks. Pedri’s season could be over after Barcelona confirmed on Friday as the Spaniard had received a thigh injury, given no timeframe for his comeback.

Pedri has been a critical piece in Barcelona’s midfield, but boss Xavi Hernandez was compelled to pull the 19-year-old off at the break in the Spanish team’s Europa League quarter-final loss versus Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, which threw them out of the tournament.

Barcelona has informed that playmaker Pedri tore his hamstring versus Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday. In the second half of the quarter-final return fixture, the Spanish player had to be switched by Frenkie de Jong. Just after the game, Barca manager Xavi confirmed that the recent physical setback for the 19-year-old was “very bad news,” and the team has since verified that he will be forced out for the foreseeable term.

This is Pedri’s second hamstring setback following his Barcelona debut. He was unavailable for a long stretch before this season owing to a similar injury. He hadn’t appeared since August and eventually resurfaced to the first team in January of this year. As a consequence, the Barca youth academy alumnus has only registered 22 outings in all competitions.

Pedri, who made approximately 50 outings in his maiden campaign with Barca, inked a new agreement in October that extended until 2026 and contained a 1 billion euro ($1.08 billion) release clause. Barcelona stands second in La Liga, 12 points behind Real Madrid although with a match in hand, although missing out on all cup tournaments.
