Barcelona held at home in a 1-1 draw against Granada

Barcelona has managed to get a point out of the game from the visiting Granada who sat at 17th in the table.

Ronald Araujo’s headed in the dying embers of the game help salvage a draw for Barcelona against the visiting Granada at Camp Nou in La Liga. A goal apiece was shared by both Spanish sides on Tuesday during Matchweek 5. The Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman had picked a young eleven for the clash with 33-year-old Sergio Busquets in midfield who was the only player over the age of 30 while the Brazilian Philippe Coutinho made his first start since the 19th of December 2020.

Granada stunned Camp Nou to take the lead in the second minute of the game courtesy of a brilliant cross to pick out Domingos Duarte at the far post who produced a power header to beat Ter Stegen. The hosts spent the remainder of the first half in the opposition’s end but could not find an end product to their attacks as the halftime whistle blew.

Koeman made a change at the resume by bringing on De Jong for Sergi Roberto and later brought on Gavi in place of Coutinho in search of a leveller for Barcelona. The match heading into added time saw Gavi settle a loose ball in the area to chip it back in front of goal where his teammate Araujo rose to redirect the ball past Maximiano to level the score. The final whistle blew as both teams had to settle for a point each. The draw now sees Barcelona drop to 7th on eight points while Granada holds on to 17th on three points in the La Liga standings.
