ATK Mohun Bagan will take on SC East Bengal on the 27th of November in the first Kolkata Derby match of this upcoming season. East Bengal will begin their season against Jamshedpur FC on the 21st of November. Defending champions Mumbai City FC will have to face the renewed resilience of FC Goa on the 22nd of November as their first match.
Saturdays will have two matches with the second match starting at 9.30 pm, while the original weekday schedule will remain the same with the matches starting from 7.30 pm onwards.
It was earlier announced that there will be an increase in the participation of local players which is due to a set of new guidelines that mandate a club to field a minimum of seven local footballers at a time, increasing it from six. An increase in the number of local players will reduce the number of foreign players that can be fielded which will be limited to four.
All the matches will be played in Goa, like last season due to the present regulations regarding the COVID-19 pandemic situation around this country and there will probably be no crowds attending these matches.
Last season, the Indian Super League title was won by Mumbai City FC, who defeated ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 in the finals of the tournament at Fatorda Stadium, Margao. That was Mumbai City FCβs 1st ISL title ever. They also qualified for the AFC Champions League Group Stage next season.
