ATK Mohun Bagan beat BFC 4-3 On penalties to Lift the maiden ISL Trophy

After defeating Bengaluru FC 2-2 (4-3 on penalties), ATK Mohun Bagan won their maiden Indian Super League title on Saturday. During the 2020-21 edition of the tournament, the club from West Bengal finished as runners-up. Dimitri Petratos was the night’s hero for ATKMB, as he coolly converted both penalties (14′ and 85′) to force extra time. Minutes before the start of the first half, Bengaluru captain Sunil Chhetri scored the team’s first goal. In the 78th minute, Roy Krishna gave the team the lead.

A couple of Gurpreet’s saves were forced as Juan Ferrando’s side demonstrated their confidence, with BFC appearing disorganized in both attack and defence. They did remain a threat from set-pieces, with Javi drawing a great save from Vishal Kaith and Sandesh Jhingan heading over from a corner.

This is the first ISL title for ATK Mohun Bagan in their rebranded guise, with ATK and Atletico de Kolkata winning three championships together. Sanjiv Goenka also announced that the club would be known as Mohun Bagan Super Giants.
