Antonio Rudiger will leave Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel confirms

Thomas Tuchel confirmed after Chelsea’s 1-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed reports that Antonio Rudiger will be leaving Chelsea at the end of the current season. The defender’s contract ends in June. However the player’s representatives and the club have been in negotiations for quite some time, and they have failed to reach an agreement.

Following Chelsea’s 1-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday, Thomas Tuchel spoke to the media in which he stated that Rudiger had informed the situation to him in a private conversation. He also stated that he and the club did everything they could but due to the sanctions and situation surrounding the ownership of the club they were helpless.

Tuchel also spoke highly of Rudiger stating the player is a key figure and will stay the same till the end of the season. He added that the defender gives courage to his teammates to play 50-55 games at an elite level and has been a top defender in the last one and a half years. Tuchel ended by saying that the defender will be missed and the club has to find a solution to this problem.

Antonio Rudiger will not be short of offers at the end of the season thanks to his inspiring and passionate performances. According to rumours, he has been linked with several clubs with Real Madrid most likely being his next destination.
