Andros Townsend cancels Anthony Martial’s goal as Everton earn a deserved draw at Old Trafford

Everton held Manchester United in the early kick-off, with Yerry Mina having a late winner ruled out for offside.

On Saturday, it was Manchester United who was locking horns with Everton FC with the match being held in Old Trafford. The toffees have been performing well and made a good comeback in the Premier League points table. Manchester United came into this game after an embarrassing loss to Aston Villa, meanwhile, Everton was looking forward to taking the lead in the points table. When Manchester United announced their squad, to everyone’s surprise, it was Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba who were benched sending shockwaves to the fans. Cavani started instead of Ronaldo meanwhile Anthony Martial got a nod as well. At the end of the game, the match ended 1-1, with Anthony Martial scoring before Andros Townsend of Everton canceled the home team’s lead with a nice goal.

The first chance during the game came when Aaron Wan Bissaka gave a narrow deep cross in the sixth minute, only for Martial to scoop the ball wide of the goal. Solomon Rondon of Everton even came close only for Raphael Varane to block his shot. Just before halftime, the deadlock was broken, when Bruno Fernandes slipped in Martial to finish emphatically past Pickford for 1-0. In the second half, Ronaldo and Sancho both came in for Martial and Cavani simultaneously, which brought joy to the fans.


The Toffees then scored the equalizer in the hour mark, when a brilliant counter-attack led by Demarai Gray giving a superb pass with Andros Townsend scoring the goal as David De Gea made no effort to it. Later Everton almost snatched the winner in the last few minutes, only when Yerry Mina’s goal was ruled offside after a late pass by Tom Davies. The match ended 1-1 full-time at Old Trafford. The match ended with one apiece, as both Manchester United and Everton FC came close to score the winner.
