A draw against Paraguay helps Argentina to extend their unbeaten streak to 23 matches

Argentina host Uruguay and Peru at home in their next two matches of this competition. Hopefully, fans will be able to witness the likes of Lautaro Martinez, who has been a star for his team in front of the goal recently.

On Thursday evening, Paraguay took on the task to host Argentina, for the South American World Cup qualifiers. The visitors however were not able to procure a victory from this game, but they still managed to keep up this unbeaten streak. Under the able guidance of Lionel Scaloni (Argentina’s Manager), Argentina has now achieved the feat of going undefeated in 23 games. Although, this was the first time since June 2019, that Argentina was unable to score in a match.

With a solitary point they got from the draw against Paraguay, the South American champions remain second in the qualification group with 19 points against their name. Brazil, who defeated Venezuela 3-1 in Caracas, lead the table with 27 points. Also, besides Argentina, they are the only unbeaten team in the group. This might have changed if the two teams were allowed to play the game on the 6th of September. It was definitely one of the most dramatic scenes on a football pitch, where officials had run out on the ground right before the game was about to start, and stopped it from happening due to breaching of COVID-19 protocols.

As things stand, both Brazil and Argentina remain unbeaten in this tournament thus far, where only the top four teams in the group will automatically qualify for the FIFA World Cup which is to be played in Qatar next year. The team in the fifth position will be required to play an interregional playoff.
