Sanket Sargar opens India’s medal tally at Commonwealth Games 2022

21-year-old weightlifter Sanket Sargar has won the silver medal for India in the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Birmingham.

Sanket Sargar has scripted history by winning the silver medal at the ongoing commonwealth games in Birmingham. It also marked the first medal for India at CWG 2022. Sagar has won the medal in the men’s 55kg category in Weightlifting on Day 2.

It was an exceptional performance by the Indian weightlifter. In the snatch round, he lifted 113kg as his best effort. Whereas in clean and jerk he produced a lifting of 135kg. Sanket tried to lift 139kg in his next attempts. However, he couldn’t lift the weight, In an attempt, he also injured himself but succeeded in finishing on the podium with a total lift of 248kg.

He lost the gold medal to Malaysia’s Mohammad Aniq by the barest of margins. Mohammad claimed the gold medal by lifting 249kg in total, 107kg and 142kg in snatch and clean and jerk respectively.

Just after the 21-year-old weightlifter won the medal, the whole nation been talking about him. Many celebrities, politicians, and sports personalities are wishing him the best for making India proud.

Sagar’s story is in itself a story of excellence. He has come a long way from working in a Paan shop in Sangli, Maharashtra to winning India’s first medal at CWG 2022, Birmingham.
