Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik, in a heartfelt address to the media, expressed her disappointment over the election of Sanjay Singh as the Wrestling Federation of India president.
Sanjay Singh, a close ally of former chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, secured victory by defeating Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anita Sheoran with a commanding 40 votes to 7 in the highly anticipated WFI elections held in New Delhi on December 21.
Malik, who led protests against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, revealed that the promises made by the Sports Ministry to prevent the influence of Singh’s family and associates were not fulfilled.
Emphasizing that Sanjay Singh, previously the vice-president of the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Federation, was a key figure in Singh’s camp, Malik hinted at the possibility of stepping away from wrestling.
