
Rohit Mor of Delhi defeated the defending champion Mohammad Hussamuddin of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) to win the gold medal at the Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship in its 5th edition at the Institute of Sports in Bellary, Karnataka earlier today. Rohit took to the ring with a dominating 5-0 win over the Commonwealth Games bronze medal winner who was considered to be a strong favourite to compete for the title in the 57kg category. Rohit’s display has earned him a seat for the upcoming 2021 AIBA Elite Men’s World Boxing Championships. All the gold medalists of the National Championship will be representing India in Serbia from the 24th of October till the 6th of November this year.

The reigning Asian Champion Sanjeet who represents SSCB has carried his great performances and has been crowned the champion of the 92kg category after his brilliant show of skill to outclass Naveen Kumar of Haryana via unanimous decision. The other boxers from SSCB who registered themselves a win to claim gold include Narender (+92kg), Lakshya (86kg), Sachin Kumar (80kg), Sumit (75kg), Akash (67), Akash (54kg) and Deepak (51kg). Deepak has been declared the Best Boxer of the Champions in the multiple finals witnessed today.
SSCB successfully defended their title in the Team Championship winning another impressive haul of medals with 12 that includes 8 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. The Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) claimed second with 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze and Delhi took third place with 1 gold and 4 bronze medals.
