
The great Neeraj Chopra, whose best throw of 88.13m helped India achieve second place, wrote history as India won its second-ever medal at the World Athletics Championships.
On this achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Olympic star calling him “one of our most distinguished athletes”.

However, the 24-year-old Haryana native struggled to get going in the men’s javelin throw final. His opening toss was incorrect. His second throw, which measured only 82.39m, was disappointing.
Neeraj appeared to be disappointed in himself, but his third throw, which travelled 86.37 metres, helped him recover. He then came back forcefully with the fourth throw, which travelled 88.13 metres, after beginning to believe.
Anderson Peters of Grenada won the gold medal. He exceeded the 90-meter barrier four times, with a best of 90.54 metres.
