Indian boxing star Meenakshi Hooda delivered a commanding performance to storm into the final of the Asian Boxing Elite Championships 2026. The 24-year-old Haryana boxer defeated Thailand’s Thipsatcha Yodwaree 5-0 in the women’s 48kg semi-final at ASA Arena in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, showcasing superior skill, precision, and ring control.

Born on August 2, 2001, in Rurki village, Rohtak district, Haryana, Meenakshi hails from a humble background. Her father, an autorickshaw driver, supported the family while she pursued boxing with borrowed gloves and shoes in her early days. She is currently a constable with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Her journey from small-town struggles to international glory highlights remarkable determination and talent.

Meenakshi is the reigning World Boxing Champion in the 48kg category, having clinched gold at the 2025 World Championships in Liverpool by defeating strong contenders including Olympic bronze medallist Nazym Kyzaibay. She also secured a silver at the 2022 Asian Championships and has multiple international medals, including golds at World Boxing Cup events.

In the ongoing Asian Elite Championships, she first outclassed Japan’s Yuka Sadamatsu 5-0 in the quarter-finals before producing this flawless semi-final display against the Thai boxer. The unanimous 5-0 victory guarantees her at least a silver medal and positions her for a shot at gold in the final.

With this result, India’s women’s boxing team continues its dominant run, with multiple pugilists securing podium finishes. Meenakshi’s composure and technical superiority make her one of India’s brightest prospects in the lightest women’s weight class. Fans across the country are now eagerly awaiting the final, hoping the Rohtak boxer adds another gold to her growing legacy.

Her success story continues to inspire young athletes from rural India, proving that with grit and hard work, dreams in the ring can turn into reality
