Alexander Zverev has ended Novak Djokovic’s bid for Golden Slam with a recovery in the men’s singles tennis semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympics.

Alexander Zverev with a massive upset of the calendar year ended Novak Djokovic’s quest for the Golden Slam with recovery from a set break down to eliminate world number one 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the men’s singles tennis semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

The Serbian slumped from a set and a break ahead where the German took the advantage to knock him out and book a spot at the gold medal match.

Fourth seed Zverev will be in action against Karen Khachanov in the fight for the gold at the final. The Russian overcame Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 6-3, 6-3 and made it into his first Summer Games final in Tokyo.

World number 25 Khachanov has succeeded in his nine of the preceding 10 matches after the player newly advanced till the quarter-finals phase at the Wimbledon championship.

Serb Djokovic, who has won three Grand Slams of four this year namely, Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon with only US Open left to win, has never gained a victory at the Olympics singles title.

The 34-year-old, who recently tied the record of 20 Grand Slams champion with Swiss Roger Federer and Spaniard Rafael Nadal was eyeing on to earn a Golden Slam but the player who had been untouchable this whole calendar year has finally been interrupted by the German.

Djokovic can still achieve the gold medal in the mixed doubles as he is paired with Nina Stojanovic into the semi-final.
