Tokyo Olympics: Ugo Humbert stuns Tsitsipas to reach the quarterfinals of the mega event

Ugo Humbert beats Stefanos Tsitsipas 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics where he will fight Karen Khachanov.

Stefanos Tsitsipas got overthrown to a 2-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 to Ugo Humbert in the third round of the Tokyo Games. The Frenchman will now fight Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals.

World number three Tsitsipas who had reached this level beating Tiafoe of America compelled a medical interlude following his injury to his right leg. Greek faced this suffering on the verge of the second set. It was alarming but looked harmless but the player was completely in pain. He looked troubled in the decider.

Despite the supervision, Tsitsipas couldn’t turn the favour on his side after breaking twice and take the first set. Humbert bounded a tie-break and forced for a third set and he climbed a double break in the pretence of 5-1 and reclaimed his fourth match point that confirmed his spot for the next round with Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals.

French Open finalist Tsitsipas had lost against 20 Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic at the Roland Garros tournament this year. He later faced an early exit at the Wimbledon 2021 as the first big name to departure on the first day of the play.

Tsitsipas is entered in the mixed doubles event with Maria Sakkari at the first round of the Tokyo Games against Dabrowski and Auger-Aliassime.
