Tokyo Olympics: Team USA wins their fourth straight Olympic Gold medal in men’s basketball

The men’s American basketball team have now made it a habit of winning gold at the Olympics as they secure another against France to make this their fourth gold medal in a row since the 2008 summer Olympics.

Team USA wins their fourth straight Olympic gold medal against the French in the Olympic Basketball game earlier today. After opening their Olympic campaign with a loss to the French in the group stages the U.S. men’s team have gotten redemption in what was like a rematch but for the gold this time. They ended in a nail-biting finish in the fourth quarter as France tried to pull the game back in their favour but falling short of just 5 points in the end. The Americans took the game in an 87-82 clash to win a historic 16th Olympic goal medal in the men’s basketball category match.

Kevin Durant led the USA with 29 points and six rebounds. Damian and Jrue Holiday finish with 11 points each and Jayson Tatum added 19 more points and seven rebounds. Rudy Gobert and Evan Fournier scored 16 points each for France as Guerschon Yabusele and Nando DeColo added 13 and 12 respectively. 

The first three quarters ended in the favour of Team USA with a 22-18 in the first, 22-21 in the second, 27-24 in the third and the fourth and final quarter was the fightback from the French side 16-19. In the final 10.2 seconds of the final quarter, DeColo made a 1-of-2 at the line to get the French 3 points behind with a score of 85-82 in favour of the American. Soon later a mistake by Gobert gives Durant of Team USA a free throw. Durant didn’t disappoint his team and gave the Americans a 5 point lead with the final score of 87-82 to win their fourth straight gold since the 2008 summer Olympics in basketball.
