Tokyo Olympics: Mary Kom moves into the pre-quarters of the women’s flyweight

Mary Kom moves into the pre-quarters of the Tokyo Olympics defeating Miguelina Hernandez Garcia of the Dominican Republic in the opening round of the women’s flyweight (48-51kg) section.

Indian boxer MC Mary Kom defeated Miguelina Hernandez Garcia of the Dominican Republic in the opening round of the women’s flyweight (48-51kg) category to move into the pre-quarters of the Tokyo Olympics.

Six times world champion Mary Kom dominated from the start to the end as she showed some brilliant moves in an exciting spirited battle where she overcame Garcia to reach the next level.

To advance into the pre-quarters, Mary Kom (51kg) staved off a stiff challenge from Garcia in her opening round battle on Sunday.

The 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist persisted 4-1 against an opponent who is a Pan American Games bronze-medalist.  In an exhilarating trial that occurred enthusiastically from its beginning, Mary Kom revealed her exceptional tactics. If she clenched around in the start round to obtain a good measure of her opponent, the veteran was aggression manifested in the last three minutes following Garcia, who is 15 years junior to Mary Kom, ended the second round with some intense punching of her own. 

The Indian boxer, Mary Kom believed favourable angle into the battle with her very strong mind and compelled Garcia to fall at her that cleared up space for kom to settle clear punches to finalise the match in her favour.
