Deepika Kumari is fixed to be paired with Pravin Jadhav for the mixed pair tournament of archery at the Tokyo Games. Deepika was inclined toward the team think-tank ahead of her husband and better trained Atanu Das because of the form exhibited in the qualification round on Friday.
The mixed pair tournament is going to make its Games debut on Saturday at the Tokyo Olympics and is anticipated as India’s best medal chance in archery, the game where the nation hasn’t won an Olympic medal yet.
Deepika Kunari ended up ranking ninth earlier in the day while India as well conserved a similar ninth position in the ranking for the mixed pair event which is based on the collective scores of Jadhav and Deepika.
India sent Jadhav while the nation also had the chance for sending entries of Atanu Das who previously earned a gold medal together with Deepika at the Paris World Cup, but the federation went ahead with Jadhav.
“Simply put, we picked Jadhav based on his current form, it’s no rocket science,” said Archer Association of India official Virendra Sachdeva to PTI. Sachdeva is attending the team in the Japanese Capital.
Das and Deepika, the ones who got married the previous year are the only couples to take part in the same discipline at the Tokyo Games.
