Kejriwal lauds the efforts of Tokyo 2020 Paralympics bronze medalist Sharad Kumar

The bronze medal winner was diagnosed with swelling in his heart last week and was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Delhi.

The chief minister of Delhi, Tuesday met the 2020 Tokyo Paralympian Sharad Kumar in Delhi. He posted about the meeting on his Twitter handle and lauded the Paralympian medalist for his performance in the Olympics.

The meeting took place when Sharad was in Delhi for a routine checkup of his ailment. The bronze medal winner was diagnosed with swelling in his heart last week and was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Delhi. Due to his complaints regarding severe chest pain, she was kept under observation, while was also made to undergo several tests.

Only last month, the High Jumper won a bronze in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020, along with his friend and fellow jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu, who secured silver. After which he revealed that he was suffering an injury on the eve of the event. Talking about his illness to ANI, Sharad said, ‘I don’t know what happened, but my report shows that there is swelling in my heart and I am in pain. I am fed up with the regular tests in hospital and I am at home now. But I do have to travel to the hospital for a test.’

The Paralympic Committee of India earlier recommended the names of four athletes to be awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratana Award 2021 and Sharad Kumar’s name was among them. Even today, at the 55th GBM of SAI, Sharad was promoted from his position of Assistant Coach to the position of Coach.
