Olympic medalist PV Sindhu wins straight sets against Yigit to qualify for the next round of Denmark Open

After clinching her medal in Tokyo, Sindhu had skipped the Sudirman Cup ad Uber Cup Final. Now the world number 7 will face Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

The double Olympic medalist, PV Sindhu marked her return to the game after a prolonged break, with a win in the first round of the Denmark Open. The current world champion took on Turkish player Yigit and defeated the 29th ranked player with 21-12 and 21-10 in her women’s singles opener. She has now joined her copatriots Kambi Shrikant and Sameer Verma, who had earlier made it to the second round.

The former champions Srikant and Sameer too made a winning start to their campaigns. Srikant, who won the tournament in 2017 got the better of B Sai Praneeth by 21-14 and 21-11 in two sets, which ended in 30 minutes. While Sameer outsmarted Thai player Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-17 and 21-14 in two sets to complete the game in just 42 minutes.

It was a great day for the singles players, the doubles team on the other hand a little bit of a mixed result. On one hand, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated their English counterparts, alongside MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila. It was Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy, who lost their match against the Malaysian team of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzudddin in the opening round.

Since she won the first match will relative ease, everyone will be expecting her to repeat the feat in the second to keep on the winning run.
