Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra bags Gold medal in Kuortane

The 2021 Olympics Javelin throw gold medalist gets his first of the year.

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra wins Javelin throw gold at Kuortane Games in Finland. This is his first win after his Tokyo Olympics triumph. His gold medal winning throw of 86.69 m was only 5cm more than Keshorn Walcott who hails from Trinidad and Tobago.

The Indian had recently participated in Paavo Nurmi Games which is also in Finland. He won silver medal in that after registering a humungous 89.30 m throw that made him the national record holder. But that throw was not good enough for him to win gold. It was his first event after the Tokyo Olympics where he bagged Gold medal and became the first and only Indian to grab a gold medal in Athletics.

In Kuortane, Neeraj achieved his gold medal winning throw of 86.69 m in his first attempt itself. After that he made two foul throws. For the third throw, he decided to not go for an attempt as his first throw was strong enough to get him the victory.  The 2012 Olympic gold medalist Keshorn Walcott who hails from Trinidad and Tobago came in a close second to secure the silver medal with an attempt of 86.64, which is just 5cms less than the gold medal winning throw. Grenada’s Anderson Peters who is this year’s World Leader came third with a throw of 84.75.  The Javelin throw at the Kuortane Games also witnessed another Indian in Sandeep Chaudhary who finished last with a throw of 60,35 m.
