Neeraj Chopra can no longer compete in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games because of an injury he sustained at the Athletics World Championships last week.
Chopra has won silver with a throw of 88.13 metres at the recently finished 2022 World Athletics Championships. Chopra competed in the finals while wearing a brace on his injured groyne. As per Sportstar, Chopra has been told to take a month off. Due to an elbow injury that ultimately required surgery, Chopra previously missed the entire 2019 season.
After Anju Bobby George’s bronze medal in 2003, Chopra is the second Indian to bring home a medal at the Worlds. He has recently been in fantastic shape. A national record was set by a throw of 89.30 metres in the Paavo Nurmi games. Four days later, he won the Kourtane Games with an 86.69-meter throw as a follow-up.
The 24-year-old then competed in the Diamond League in Stockholm, where he once again shattered the national record with a throw of 89.94 metres.
