Nike suspends deal with Kyrie Irving, will not launch Kyrie 8

The point guard issued an apology on his official Instagram account a few hours later, taking full responsibility for his actions but that wasn’t enough as of now.

Nike informed CNN via email on Friday that it was discontinuing its partnership with Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving.

“At Nike, we believe there is no place for hate speech and we condemn any form of antisemitism,” the announcement tells. It further stated, “To that end, we’ve made the decision to suspend our relationship with Kyrie Irving effective immediately and will no longer launch the Kyrie 8. We are deeply saddened and disappointed by the situation and its impact on everyone.”

As you are aware, Kyrie has come under heavy fire ever since he tweeted a link to an anti-Semitic film last week. Nike isn’t the only company to criticise Irving. After he declined to express regret for promoting the movie, the Nets said on Thursday that they would suspend him for at least five games. After he “satisfies a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct.”

Irving missed the first of at least five Brooklyn Nets games on Friday after receiving a suspension for comments he made regarding a tweet he sent that contained a link to an anti-Semitic documentary. The point guard issued an apology on his official Instagram account a few hours later, taking full responsibility for his actions but that wasn’t enough as of now.
