NBA star Stephen Curry, Giannis & others wish, “Namaste India, Happy Diwali”

NBA wishes India a very happy Diwali, let’s take a look at the NBA’s contribution to India and Indian players in the NBA.

NBA stars like Stephen Curry, Giannis, Paul George, etc. are some of the superstars who wish us Happy Diwali. NBA has always been trying to extend its reach worldwide to explore new talent from outside the USA. Basketball has always been an American sport and it is dominated by them, but in recent years it has changed, the reigning NBA champion Giannis Antetokuomnpo who is from Greece, Luka Doncic is dominating the NBA at just 22 years of age, and other players like Tony Parker, Dirk Nowitzki are some fo the greatest foreign players ever played in the NBA.

While all these European have extended their reach to the NBA, India is also starting to mark their presence. NBA has had 3 Indian players in the league and currently one is playing in the D-League of  Sacramento Kings. Princepal Singh of Gurdaspur is the first Indian player ever to be a part of NBA summer league winner. With a 6’9 frame, he became the 2nd ever Indian NBA player alongside another ain’t from Punjab Satnam Singh who was drafted by Dallas Mavericks.

NBA also held their first-ever game in India in 2019, in Mumbai, it was a pre-season game between Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings. Bhuvan Bam a famous youtube sang our national anthem and NBA legends like Larry Bird, Vlade Divac, Dikembe Mutombo, Detlef Schrempf, Jason Williams Doug Christie, and Peja Stojakovic were the attendees alongside Indian celebrities.
