The All-Star game this time, as we all know was the 75th Anniversary celebrations of the NBA. Legends and current players that were a part of the top 75 players list were honoured at halftime. While it was amazing to see so many legends in one place, one legend made a late appearance at the event and stole the spotlight.
Michael Jordan was the last name called at the ceremony. The man acknowledged by most as the GOAT came at the last moment when there was speculation that he would miss the event. His long time friend and teammate at North Carolina, TNT analyst Kenny Smith said that Michael understood the significance of the moment and there was no way he would have missed it.
While MJ met up with a lot of the stars there including LeBron James, a significant meet up that went viral was Michael sneaking up on the young superstar and member of the top 75 players’ list as well, Luka Doncic. It is one thing being snuck on by anyone but when it’s the GOAT it’s a dream come true. Luka said that ‘It’s amazing, I don’t know how to explain that moment. It’s just unbelievable. MJ knows my name, it’s a lot. Just an unbelievable moment. I have no words for that.”
Some memes were made immediately about Michael trying to recruit Luka. The Mavericks superstar has been on a tear recently and might just be in the MVP conversation at the end of the season. LeBron has heaped praise on Luka as well saying that Luka reminds him of himself. MJ and Luka had a short conversation and Karl Anthony Towns joined in as well.
It is impossible to encapsulate the 75th Anniversary celebrations in a few words. Especially the moment the players were honoured. But it was amazing that legends like Magic Johnson, Jerry West and Michael Jordan could make an appearance and speak to the younger generation of players. They were the ones that built the league to what it is now and it is stars like Luka that will continue to take the league forward.
