Luka faces his first blowout of the season by Trae Young’s Hawks

Mavericks lost their first game by 26 points from last year Eastern conference finalist Atlanta Hawks

Dallas Mavericks’ new head coach is not off to a good start, Jason Kidd and the Mavs lost their first game by 113-87. In the first quarter  Hawks too an early from Luka who was having a bad night from the field, they never looked back. Cam Reddish who led the Hawks in the first half in scoring (15points) helped the team to end the half by 51-44, Trae Young also had a bad night shooting the ball and ended the half with just 7 points and 3 assists.

In the 2nd half, the Hawks took control in the 3rd quarter by outscoring Mavericks by 35-20, the new head coach Jason and the Mavs were not able to make the run after that, Luka was horrendous from the field shooting just 6/17 i.e 35.5%, their 2nd star Kristaps Porzingas who blamed coaching last year for his poor performances in the playoffs was just 4/11 from the field with just 11 points. Meanwhile for the Hawks, Cam Reddish off the bench scored team-high 20 points and Trae was able to make high IQ plays to stack 14 assists. Luka and Trae were traded for each other on the draft day and both came out to be a great option for their team.

Even though this was just a regular-season 1st game and Dallas as a whole was rusty shooting just 33.3% as a team, it is yet to be seen if the young star Luka Doncic, Porzingas will fit together or not, and as Mavs could not land a big star to assist Luka, will they be able to have success as they did with Rick Carlisle. Luka who is many people’s choice as the MVP favorite under championship-winning head coach will have to pick up the pace to compete in the tougher western conference.
