Luka Doncic dropped a 50 piece on the Clippers today and had a new career-high. The guard had 51 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists on the night. The most amazing part was that Luka had scored 28 points in just the first quarter! With the huge rivalry between the two teams that developed over the last 2 seasons in the playoffs, it couldn’t be better for the 22-year-old phenom to have his career-high against them. The superstar had the basketball world on notice with players like Trae Young tweeting,’ Luka cookin’ in the middle of the game.
The 3 times All-star had this great performance on the same day he was picked to be a part of Team LeBron for the All-star game in Cleveland. Luka leads all scorers in the game with the second-highest scorer being Marcus Morris Sr. with 21 points. The game was close despite the Mavericks guard having a career night. The Mavs eventually won the game 112-105 at home.
The performance comes right after the Mavericks traded big man, Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards in exchange for spencer Dinwiddie and other pieces. There were reported issues between Luka and Porzingis last year with the centre being unhappy about how he was being used in the offence. Once Jason Kidd took over as Head coach, the star was given a more prominent role and was averaging 19.2 points and 7.7 rebounds. But Porzingis has always been injury-prone and was once again on the sidelines for most of the season.
The Big man’s trade came as a surprise to many as there were no trade rumours surrounding him and things in Dallas seemed to be going pretty well. It was most likely frustration on the part of ownership and the front office with his constant injuries that led them to trade him. Luka’s amazing performance today was a reminder that the Mavs are still in good hands and all they need to do is surround their superstar with other superstar players that could help them win a championship cause Luka Magic is going to be around for a long time.
