Ja Morant creates franchise history for the Grizzlies with 50 point game

Ja becomes the first Grizzlies player to ever put up 50 points in a game.

Ja Morant was sensational against the San Antonio Spurs and created franchise history by being the first Grizzlies player to put up 50 points in a game. The Grizzlies had the record for most games without 50 points being scored in the NBA. Ja brought that to an end with his 52 points on 73.33% shooting. He also had 7 rebounds to add to the great performance.

The Grizzlies superstar broke his career-high of 46 points that he just had against the Chicago Bulls a day ago. The young superstar had some amazing plays as well – A deep 3 to beat the shot clock, an incredible buzzer-beating shot to end the half, and a poster on Jakob Poeltl. He also shot 100% from 3 point range, even though he only took 4.

The Spurs played well against the Grizzlies. They had 5 players in double digits and were led by Lonnie Walker’s 22 points, Dejounte Murray’s 21 points and 8 assists, and Jakob Poeltl’s 16 points and 14 rebounds. But it wasn’t enough to get over the show that Morant was putting on. The Grizzlies only had De’Anthony Melton and Tyus Jones in double digits. Steven Adams helped with 14 rebounds as well.

The Spurs played great defence as well and had a chance to take the lead in the 3rd quarter. But Ja was an obstacle that couldn’t be overcome in the game. The loss keeps head Coach, Gregg Popovich of the Spurs, from tying Don Nelson for the all-time regular season coaching wins in NBA history. The Grizzlies get closer to the 2 seed Warriors and are only a game back from them on the Western Conference standings.

The Grizzlies have done an amazing job of drafting this incredible talent. They landed a superstar in Morant and got some great pieces to surround him. They have also hired a really good coach in Taylor Jenkins that has created a culture in Memphis. The team also sticks together and it was a great moment when they all got together to celebrate Morant’s 50 points at the end of the game. The Grizzlies are the most dangerous team in the West and could create major problems for top teams like the Warriors and Suns.
