I want to win another championship: Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Greek Freak sat down with Malika Andrews of ESPN and discussed the Bucks and their season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo took the league by storm around 2017 and announced his ascension to the world. He was soon nicknamed the Greek Freak and went on to win back-to-back MVP awards, a defensive player of the year award, and even won All-Star MVP. But everything he had accomplished, a championship always evaded the Bucks’ superstar. That is until last season.

The Bucks were the 3rd seed last season which was different for them as they had finished as the top seed in the previous 2 seasons. The team was underrated when they got to0 the playoffs. But once they swept Miami things changed. The Bucks then beat the Nets and the Hawks to reach the finals. In the Finals, they beat the Suns in 6 games with Giannis putting up 50 points in the closeout game.

Yesterday, reporter Malika Andrews from ESPN interviewed the Greek Freak and asked him about the Bucks’ season. The first question was how it felt to be the target of every team as the reigning defending champions. Giannis responded by saying,’ I try not to think about the past. I try to be in the moment as much as possible, keeps me humble….obviously, I realize that a lot of people are coming after us.’

He added that he understood that they were excited to beat the Bucks, especially in Milwaukee but at the end of the day he focuses on getting better and he said,’ I want to win another championship.’. Giannis had similar words immediately after winning the championship and said that he was already thinking about how he could win another one.

He said that the team had goals that they had set out to achieve and while there were obstacles in their way they hoped to be the last team standing once again. When asked about flying under the radar, Giannis laughed and said, ‘No one cares about us….we play in Milwaukee…small market team, not a lot of attention and we just go out there and do our job.’.

The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the best teams in the league right now. But this season their path to glory has gotten tougher with the Eastern Conference being extremely competitive. Giannis is playing like he always does, at an MVP level but this year, unless the Bucks perform incredibly well as a unit, it is going to be difficult to have Giannis put the team on his back all the way to the finals.
