Devin Booker responds to Anthony Davis’ comments

Davis said that the Suns ‘ got lucky last year and wouldn’t have won against them in the Playoffs if he was healthy.

Before the Lakers played the Suns yesterday, Anthony Davis had comments regarding the Playoffs last season. The Lakers had lost in the first round to the Phoenix Suns. Davis was injured that series and LeBron was coming off an injury too. Chris Paul and Devin Booker led the Suns to victory and handed Lebron his first first-round exit in his career.

When asked whether his groin injury was the reason the Suns won last year, Davis responded, “It was … We know that. They know that … They got away with one,” reported NBA reporter of ESPN, Dave McMenamin. The superstar has had an injury-ridden history and was sitting out of this game as well due to an ankle sprain. Davis should have not spoken up because the Suns’ players heard him loud and clear. Booker led the Suns to a 140-111 thumping of the Lakers and had 30 points and 10 assists in the game.

When asked about Davis’ comments in the post-game interview, Booker said, ‘ “If ‘it’ was a fifth, we’d all be drunk. If my auntie had something between her legs, she’d be my uncle. There are a lot of ifs in this game. And you look at history along the lines, there’s something that comes up for every team during every season. Instead of just taking the high route and going, you have to comment on that,” reported Kellan Olson.

What Devin Booker said was absolutely true. Even going back to the ’60s, Bill Russell won his last championship in large part due to Wilt Chamberlain being injured in the last few minutes. Even most recently, Kawhi Leonard delivered a championship to the city of Toronto because Kevin Durant was injured for the Warriors in 2019 and then Klay Thompson got injured in Game 6.

With the way the Lakers are struggling to win games, their players have to focus on their game rather than what could have been. With Davis out the Lakers are risking elimination from even the Play-In game. If that happens, the Lakers could have one of their worst seasons in Franchise history. Because while there are years the Lakers have not made the Playoffs, it has never been with a collection of talent like this.
