Kenya runner Agnes Tirop’s husband arrested by police

Kenya world record runner in 10,000 km was found dead in her house stabbed to death and the major suspect was the husband who is arrested.

The husband of the national runner Agnes was arrested after being the major suspect for her death, a nationwide manhunt was ordered and he was found at the coastal city of Mombasa trying to flee the country, authorities reported to Reuters.

Tirop who was just 25 years of age was just getting started with her glorious career in running and had the Olympic medalist potential, she won a bronze medal in 2017 and 2019 World Championships in the 10,000m, also won the 2015 World Cross Country Championships. The tragedy occurred in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet county, this was confirmed by the Chairperson of Athletics Kenya which is located in the Nairobi region.

“The suspect has been arrested today evening and is in custody at Changamwe police station in Coast Region,” Tom Makori, sub-county police commander for Keiyo North told Reuters.

The directorate of the criminal investigation confirmed on Twitter that they have the prime suspect in custody, Tirop’s husband Rotich was fleeing the country but was caught after jamming his car into a truck.

Another Kenya runner came up showing her regards of losing a bright talent, Hellen Obiri, who won silver in the 5KM race in the Tokyo Olympics in which Tirop finished 4th told BBC that it was very shocking her to hear the news, she was very talented and had many races with her.
