Despite what appeared to be a lost cause, Patil managed to win bronze. After leading in the early stages of qualification, he shot a solid 631.0 to finish fourth. In the 25-shot top-eight ranking round, he was well outside the medal positions until the third series of five shots. After a fantastic fourth series in which he shot the highest 53.5 scores, he regained his place in the competition.
Rudrankksh entered the fifth series 0.8 points behind Yu. As Yu faltered in the series, he shot 51.6 to finish fourth. It marked the Indian’s second medal in two days and his fourth podium finish at the ISSF World Cup in his career. Patil finished with a 262.3, while Sheng and Du moved on to the gold medal match with 264.2 and 263.3, respectively.
In the women’s 10m air rifle event, Ramita finished second among 52 medal contenders with a score of 632.3 to place in the top eight. China’s Huang was in ominous form, topping the qualifications with a 632 USA’sore. The United States Mary Tucker, who won silver in the mixed team event at the Tokyo Olympics, also placed seventh.
