IPL: Ben Stokes opts out of Indian Premier League

Considering the underperformance in Ashes, Ben Stokes opts out of 2022 IPL to be mentally prepared for the next home season of team England.

One of the best all-rounders Ben Stokes has decided to opt-out of IPL in 2022. Stokes considers taking this decision to manage his workload. According to British media, Stokes wants to be mentally prepared for the next home season of England.

Underperformance in Ashes can be one of the reasons Stokes focuses on England’s next home season. Stokes struggled to play up to mark in the Ashes as he only scored 236 runs and took a total of 4 wickets throughout the series. Australia won the Ashes, leading by 4-0.

Ben Stokes had an advantageous opportunity to get sold in one of the richest cricketing premier leagues as his raise, according to past performance and statistics, might have gone higher. But Stokes, not bothering about a good deal, thinks of taking a break and investing his time for the nation’s team.

Ben Stokes, in the 2021 edition was a part of team Rajasthan Royals but was ruled out from the first phase of IPL, as his finger was fractured. The second leg of IPL, post-COVID-19, allowed him to perform for the remaining matches but he decided not to come back and stay with team England.

Among the England players, only Moeen Ali and Jos Buttler have been retained by their IPL franchises, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals respectively.

The mega-auction of the Indian Premier League does not include some of the best performing players of all time as Ben Stokes, Chris Morris, and even AB de Villiers will not be seen in the 2022 edition. With two new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad coming in, this auction will be more exciting to watch.
