Shaili Singh was close to creating a history and was very close to grab a Gold medal in the women’s Long jump and missed the gold medal by just 1cm. This is India’s third medal in the event. The championship is taking place in Nairobi on Sunday.
Shaili topped in the Qualification round with a jump of 6.40m and then she was successful in making a lead in the midway when she leapt her career-best of 6.59m in her third Attempt. Though this will not be considered as her personal best as this was claimed to be a wind-assisted jump.
Maja Askag of Sweden took the Gold medal with 6.60m and Maria’s Horielova settled for Bronze with 6.50m. The women’s relay team finished at fourth in the final of 4x400m with the best timing in the Season at 3:40:45 whereas on the same day Ankita finished sixth in the women’s 5000m.
India got three medals in the tournament with two Silvers from Shaili and Amit Khatri in Long Jump and 10,000m race walk and a Bronze medal in mixed 4x400m relay team.
