
Bangkok: Former world number 1 and Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal and currently world number 28 HS Prannoy tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of Thailand open. They have been asked to isolate themselves in the hospital for a minimum of 10 days and also have been withdrawn from the tournament. In a third and last mandatory round of Covid-19 tests, they both tested positive.
Resulting in this, Saina’s opponent of the first round, Kisona Selvaduray has got a sail through. HS Prannoy had his first match with the local player Lee Zii Jia on Wednesday. Earlier Saina complained about not being allowed to meet the physios and trainers after the arrival in Thailand. She also had raised objection to the practice hour provide to the Indian team that was only 1 hour.
Meanwhile, PV Sindhu remains the only Indian shuttler in the tournament. The official page of the Badminton Association of India posted that they are constantly in touch with players, team management, and organizers. They still haven’t released the official statements.
