PR Sreejesh becomes the second Indian to win the “World Games Athlete of the Year”

Indian Hockey Player, PR Sreejesh for his performances in 2021, became the second Indian to win the prestigious “World Games Athlete of the Year.”

On Monday, the Goalkeeper of the Indian Hockey team PR Sreejesh won the “World Games Athlete of the Year.” He is the second Indian to receive this prestigious award for his performances in 2021.

In 2020, this honour was received by Rani Rampal the Indian Captain of the Women’s Hockey Team. She was the first Indian to win this prestigious award for her show in 2019. To win this award Sreejesh beat sports Climber of Spain Alberto Gines Lopez and the wushu player of Italy, Michele Giordano.

The 33-year-old hockey player was the only Indian Nominated. Who was recommended by the FIH (International Hockey Federation)? In October, Sreejesh in the FIH stars award was named as the goalkeeper of the year for 2021.

Sreejesh said in a statement that was quoted as saying by the FIH, he is very honoured to win this award. He thanked FIH for nominating him for this award as well as to all the Indian hockey lovers around the world who voted for him. He further added, by getting nominated he did his part. But the rest was done by the hockey lovers and the fans. So, this award goes to them, they deserve this award more.

He also dedicated the honour to his teammates as well as the behind-the-scenes support system, who in Tokyo Olympic, propelled the side to the podium.
