On Thursday, the Indian Hockey Team took down the defending champions, Japan, 4-2 in Hangzhou, China. This was not only Team India’s third consecutive win but also helped them take a giant leap into the semi-finals of the men’s hockey competition at the Asian Games 2023.
India’s young striker Abhishek (13th and 48th minutes) scored two stunning goals for his team to claim the big win, while Mandeep Singh (24th) and Amit Rohidas (34th) contributed the other two goals for the team. Japan did try hard and managed to score two quick goals in the final five minutes of the fourth and final quarter of the game.
While the world no. 3 dominated the entire match, Japan showcased a comeback in the last few minutes of the game, which was not enough for a win.
India will now face their arch-rivals Pakistan in their next Pool A match on Saturday.
