Rodri has refused to rule out a future move to Real Madrid, despite his past ties with Atlético Madrid and current commitment to Manchester City.
Speaking to Onda Cero, the Spanish midfielder made it clear that loyalty to his former club would not stand in the way of a potential switch to the Santiago Bernabéu. “The fact that I played for Atlético does not stop me from playing for Real Madrid,” Rodri said. “You cannot refuse the best clubs in the world.”
The 27-year-old has been a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side, playing a pivotal role in their domestic and European dominance, including their historic UEFA Champions League triumph. However, his latest remarks will undoubtedly fuel speculation about a possible future in Spain, particularly with Real Madrid’s continued dominance on the continental stage.
Rodri also acknowledged the aura surrounding Los Blancos, especially in high-pressure European nights. Reflecting on their encounters, he admitted: “It doesn’t mean anything if Real arrive in UCL key stages in good or bad form, Real Madrid is always Real Madrid.”
He went on to praise the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, describing it as one of the most intimidating venues in world football. “Playing at the Bernabéu is incredible… it’s a very intimidating place,” he added.
