Manchester United have reportedly shifted their focus away from Elliott Anderson and are now prioritising Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali as their main target to replace Casemiro ahead of the 2026/27 season.
According to recent reports, the Red Devils are planning for life after Casemiro, whose influence has begun to decline due to age and recurring fitness concerns. While several midfielders have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, Tonali has emerged as the club’s preferred long-term option to anchor the midfield.
The Italian international joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 and remains highly regarded across Europe for his composure, tactical intelligence, and ability to control games from deep positions. United scouts are said to be impressed with Tonali’s leadership qualities and his blend of defensive solidity and progressive passing, attributes that mirror Casemiro’s role at his peak.
However, a move for Tonali will not come cheap. Newcastle are believed to value the midfielder at around £87 million, reflecting both his age and importance to Eddie Howe’s project. United’s hierarchy understands that securing such a signing would require significant investment but see Tonali as a player capable of transforming their midfield for years to come.
