AC Milan pulled out of a potential move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta after discovering a long-standing knee issue, sending shockwaves through the transfer market.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Palace manager Oliver Glasner revealed that Mateta has been dealing with a knee problem since November. Despite the injury, the French forward insisted on continuing to play, and the club managed his condition throughout the season. However, the situation took a dramatic turn once Mateta expressed his desire to leave Selhurst Park.

“Mateta told us he would like to leave. AC Milan assessed him and decided not to sign Jean-Philippe,” Glasner confirmed.

The Rossoneri had been monitoring Mateta as part of their search for a new striker, but medical evaluations raised concerns over his fitness and long-term availability. The decision highlights Milan’s cautious approach in the transfer window, especially with the club aiming to rebuild and compete strongly in Serie A and Europe next season.

Mateta enjoyed a strong campaign with Crystal Palace, playing a key role in their attacking setup and attracting interest from several European clubs. However, the revelation of a persistent knee issue could significantly impact his market value and future transfer prospects.
