Barcelona have made their first formal approach for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, but the offer has been swiftly turned down.
According to reliable Spanish journalist Rubén Uría, Barcelona proposed €70 million plus Ferran Torres in exchange for the Argentine forward. Atletico Madrid deemed the package “insufficient”, while Ferran Torres himself has no desire to leave the Catalan club.
Why Atletico Rejected Barcelona’s Offer for Julian Alvarez
Atletico Madrid are holding firm on their valuation of Julian Alvarez. Recent reports suggest the club could demand as much as €150 million for the 26-year-old World Cup winner, especially given his strong desire to move to a bigger project.
Alvarez has reportedly informed Atletico that he wants to leave this summer, with Barcelona as his preferred destination. However, the Madrid club views him as a key player and are in no rush to sell unless their high asking price is met.
The inclusion of Ferran Torres in the deal was intended to lower the cash outlay for Barcelona, who continue to navigate strict financial regulations. Torres, however, is unwilling to depart, effectively collapsing this structure of the proposal.
Julian Alvarez: The Ideal Striker for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona?
Julian Alvarez has established himself as one of La Liga’s top forwards since joining Atletico from Manchester City. Known for his clinical finishing, intelligent movement, work rate, and versatility (able to play as a central striker or on the wings), he would represent a high-quality, long-term addition to Barcelona’s attack.
With Robert Lewandowski’s future uncertain and Barcelona seeking a dynamic successor, Alvarez fits Hansi Flick’s high-pressing, fluid attacking style perfectly.
