Liverpool could be drawn into a sensational transfer twist as former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has reportedly asked the club to sign Turkish wonderkid Arda Güler if they want him to take over as their next manager.
According to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alonso has made it clear that Güler would be a key part of his long-term project at Anfield. The 44-year-old is said to be keen on reuniting with the young playmaker, who impressed under his guidance earlier this season despite limited opportunities.
Güler joined Real Madrid amid huge expectations, but injuries and fierce competition for places have restricted his game time. While the Turkish international has shown flashes of brilliance when given chances, consistent minutes have been hard to come by in a star-studded Madrid squad.
This has fuelled speculation that a move away could be considered if a suitable offer arrives. Alonso reportedly views Güler as a perfect creative force for his tactical setup, believing the 19-year-old could thrive in the Premier League with regular playing.
