Manchester City booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a composed 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, continuing their strong domestic cup form and underlining their squad depth once again.

The Premier League champions broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Antoine Semenyo, who marked another milestone in his early Manchester City journey. The winger showed great composure inside the box, capitalising on City’s sustained pressure after the break to put Pep Guardiola’s side firmly in control of the contest.

Newcastle, backed by a vocal home crowd, tried to respond with intensity and physicality, but City’s midfield control and defensive structure limited the hosts to very few clear-cut chances. Despite periods of resistance from Eddie Howe’s men, the visitors always looked the more assured side in possession.

As Newcastle pushed forward in search of an equaliser late on, City found the killer blow in stoppage time. Rayan Cherki sealed the win in the 90+8th minute, finishing off a swift attacking move to put the result beyond doubt and spark celebrations among the travelling supporters.
