Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford has opened up about the uncertainty surrounding his future after admitting he was unaware that the club would sign Gianluigi Donnarumma during the previous summer transfer window.

Speaking in comments shared by Fabrizio Romano, Trafford revealed that the arrival of Donnarumma, along with another goalkeeper signing in the same window, significantly limited his chances of regular first-team football at Manchester City.

“I’ve got a contract, so I don’t know what happens next season,” Trafford said. “I just know that I’ll take it a day at a time and try and improve,” he added in an interview with Sam Lee.

City’s decision to recruit two goalkeepers in the same transfer window reshaped the competition for places under Pep Guardiola. With Donnarumma coming in as a high-profile signing and another keeper also added to the squad, Trafford’s pathway to consistent minutes became increasingly restricted.
