New Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has made his position clear on Cristian Romero, calling the defender “crucial” to both the team and the club’s ambitions.
Speaking in his early remarks after taking charge, De Zerbi underlined Romero’s importance in strong terms. “Cuti Romero is crucial for us, crucial for Tottenham as a club,” he said. The Italian coach did not stop there. He went further by labelling the Argentine centre-back as possibly the most important player in the current squad.
“He is the captain, he is maybe the most important player in our squad, and to achieve our goal, we need the best of Romero,” De Zerbi added. The statement sends a clear message about the role Romero is expected to play under the new regime.
However, the situation around the player remains uncertain. Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Romero has been considering a move away from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season. Interest from top European clubs has only added to the speculation.
