Chelsea FC are set to file a formal complaint with Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) following an unusual moment involving the referee before their clash with Newcastle United FC.

The incident occurred during Chelsea’s traditional pre-match team huddle on the pitch. As the players gathered around the ball to motivate each other before kickoff, the match referee was seen standing in the middle of the circle. The situation quickly sparked debate, with Chelsea officials questioning why the official positioned himself within the players’ gathering.

According to reports shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club intends to seek clarification from PGMOL regarding the referee’s actions. Chelsea believe the moment disrupted a private team ritual meant to build unity and focus before the match.

Speaking after the incident, the Chelsea manager explained that the decision to form the huddle came directly from the players. He emphasized that the team gathered around the ball as a show of unity before the game.

“My players made a decision as they wanted to huddle around the ball to show unity… it’s not my decision,” the coach Liam Rosenior stated.
