AC Milan’s sporting director Igli Tare has expressed strong optimism regarding Luka Modrić’s future at the club, stating he believes the Croatian midfielder will sign a new deal to remain for the 2026-27 season.
Speaking to DAZN, Tare said, “I believe Luka Modrić will sign new deal and stay with us for one more season.”
Season and Recovery Update
The contract discussions come at a critical time for the 40-year-old veteran:
• Injury Status: Modrić has been ruled out for the remainder of the Serie A campaign after undergoing surgery for a complex fractured left cheekbone.
• The Incident: The injury occurred during a collision with Manuel Locatelli during Milan’s 0–0 draw against Juventus on April 26.
• World Cup Goals: Despite the setback, Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalić is confident Modrić will recover in time to lead his national team at the 2026 World Cup, which begins on June 11.
Conditions for Renewal
While Milan is ready to increase his salary to approximately €4.5 million per season, reports suggest Modrić’s renewal may depend on several factors:
• Managerial Stability: The continued presence of Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly a key factor for the midfielder.
• Squad Ambition: Modrić is seeking assurances that the club will recruit sufficiently to compete in the latter stages of the Champions League.
Since joining as a free agent from Real Madrid, Modrić has made 36 appearances for the Rossoneri, contributing two goals and three assists while serving as a vital leader in their push for European qualification
