In a recent pre-match press conference, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick highlighted the exceptional talent and growth of 18-year-old winger Lamine Yamal while addressing the intense scrutiny surrounding him.

“As for me, Lamine Yamal is 18 years old, but he delivers a truly outstanding performance,” Flick stated. He noted the heavy expectations: “He was under a lot of pressure because everyone is always talking about him. I think this is the third or fourth question about Lamine.”

Flick emphasized the external noise: “Everything Lamine does affects everyone, there are so many voices around him. But what I see is that he’s developed a lot in recent weeks, and he’s been delivering an absolutely incredible level.” The coach described Yamal as more mature than his years, smart, and clear about his goals, while committing to shield him from excessive criticism.

This comes after Yamal suffered a hamstring injury (biceps femoris tear) during Barcelona’s 1-0 LaLiga win over Celta Vigo on April 22, where he scored a penalty. The club confirmed he will miss the remainder of the domestic season but is expected to recover in time for the 2026 World Cup with Spain.

Flick has consistently protected the youngster, especially after emotional moments like his reaction to a substitution earlier in April. “I will always support him… He’s only 18,” the German coach reiterated in prior comments.

Yamal’s form has been pivotal in Barça’s LaLiga title push. Despite the blow, Flick’s words underscore belief in the teen’s bright future. Barcelona, nine points clear, will rely on others like Lewandowski to close out the campaign.
