Real Madrid have issued a powerful show of unity behind Vinícius Júnior following the racism controversy that erupted during their 1-0 victory over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League playoff first leg.

Multiple Real Madrid players publicly condemned the alleged remarks directed at Vinícius Jr by Benfica’s Gianluca Prestiani, with senior figures revealing that the squad had already agreed on a drastic response if such an incident occurred again.

Midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni confirmed the team’s pact: “We had agreed to walk off the pitch if something like this happened. Then we spoke, and we decided to go out there and beat them.” His statement underlined the emotional impact of the situation and the collective resolve within the Madrid camp.

Federico Valverde also expressed his anger, calling the episode “shameful.” “If you cover your mouth to say something, it’s because you’re saying something that is not right,” Valverde said, suggesting there was clear intent behind the alleged words.

Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa echoed the sentiment, demanding accountability. “Go ask Prestiani what he said. It’s unacceptable. We cannot accept these things,” he stated.
