Barcelona president Joan Laporta has called for unity and compassion around defender Ronald Araujo after confirming that the centre-back has requested some time away from the squad to recover both mentally and physically. Speaking about the situation, Laporta emphasised that the club is fully behind the Uruguayan and is committed to helping him return “stronger and more motivated.”

Laporta revealed that Araujo personally expressed his gratitude to the club and assured them that he would come back ready to compete at his best. “These are sensitive matters and must be left to specialists,” Laporta stated, highlighting that Araujo’s recovery will be handled carefully and without public pressure. “We let Araujo recover in peace.”

The Barcelona chief also underlined the defender’s importance to the team, admitting that his absence leaves a noticeable gap. “He’s a player we need; we don’t have anyone with his qualities,” Laporta said. He added that Araujo has been affected by recent events, particularly a controversial yellow card incident that Laporta believes should not have occurred.
