Former Real Madrid player and current first-team coach Álvaro Arbeloa has made it clear that he will not remain part of the coaching staff under the next head coach — especially if José Mourinho returns to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Arbeloa Firmly Shuts Door on Mourinho Collaboration
In a recent interview, Arbeloa was direct and left no room for speculation. When asked about his future and the possibility of working alongside José Mourinho, the Spanish coach stated:
“I will NOT stay with the next coach as part of the staff.”
He continued:
“José Mourinho has a fantastic coaching staff, he’s very well surrounded. If he arrives, he’ll do so with his own people, as it should be. There’s NO possibility of me being with him.”
Arbeloa’s Relationship with Real Madrid
Arbeloa, a Champions League winner as a player under Mourinho in 2014 (during his second stint at the club), has been part of the Real Madrid coaching setup since retiring. He has worked closely with the youth teams and recently joined the senior team staff.
His respect for Mourinho as a coach is evident, but he believes each manager should bring their own trusted team — a common practice in top-level football.
